I've put pickups on a host of brass and diecast locomotives. I use the short MTH roller as a rule, it makes it easier to get it between the wheels on the tender trucks. I typically use either fiberglass or Styrene stock to make the mounts. For most brass locomotives I either use existing screw holes or drill & tap for the mounting screws.
