Saw this in today's news feed. Sounding more and more like perhaps the issue with the Horizon Fleet is simply one of Amtrak trying to extend their life long enough to get to the new Airo trainsets being built by Siemens and not quite making it.
Those new sets look like they will be a huge improvement, and should they be successful perhaps it will mean the retirement of the Amfleet I fleet. However, for fans of those cars I am sure they will see 2nd lives elsewhere. Several went to Mexico and were refurbished for commuter service a few years back. Those Budd cars still have life in them.
