For fiction, I recommend Clive Cussler's THE WRECKER. Good action read, and the author (or co-author) did his homework!

Just a couple of minor discrepancies:
1. Omits use of reverse lever to control cutoff when operating a steam locomotive.
2. Did SP have stone-ballasted track in the early 20th century?
