I know that Karl's design works on a 2200. However, when I was measuring grounds on the 4400, I was coming up with different readings. I decided rather than risk expensive boards I'd just make a design that I know will work with any DCC board. It's compatible with the function output of any board that has 10-18 VDC drive of 10ma or more. I think that covers pretty much most boards that I've seen. There is no chance of any ground loops or sneak paths in my relay based design, the power circuit is totally isolated from the switching circuit. It also switches 5 amps with no circuit losses since it's a relay.
