I heard from Crowdstack Tech Support on this one, and I'm glad I asked. The solution they gave me is something I would never have thought of, and is very simple.

You can use 'reactions' to keep track of threads you want to see again. If you 'react' to a topic, it will show up on your profile in your 'reactions' tab. It requires you to be a bit more judicious with your reactions, but it accomplishes the goal.
