This arrived this afternoon - just a day after my 26th birthday!

I found this Lionel OO Gauge Set - no. 0090W - on the bay for a great price (a little over $650) considering the condition and contents.

The set came with the boxes (albeit in less than ok condition with the set box in rags), an oval of two-rail track, a scale Hudson with a whistle tender, all 4 die cast freight cars, and even an original 1942 catalog!

The Hudson came with a slightly broken trailing truck (which you can’t see), but otherwise everything looks top notch condition, especially considering it’s almost 80 years old. The freight cars especially. I’ve gotta get it all looked over so it’s all in working condition, but I feel just like a kid back in 1942 when this set was first released.

Especially with that catalog to look back on all the classic items. I think I’ve cemented myself on collecting prewar Lionel now.

26, eh Thomas. Nice buy, you have a good eye for trains.

Lucky dog!  In another 20 years you should be able to buy prewar and postwar for practically nothing from others your age who inherited their father's and/or grandfather's trains.

I have over 20 "train friends" and only one of their adult offspring shows any interest in trains.  Seems that most  grandkids usually like to play with them when young, no interest in operating or collecting thereafter, a shame
