Reply to "Buy anything cool lately?"

My most recent purchase arrived today via FedEx, and yes it arrived in one piece in a completely undamaged box, too! Yay! Trainz offered this one on eBay, as I think Southern Pacific has a modest market with model railroaders and Trainz needed more exposure. It was orginally listed at  catalog list price, and then they dropped the asking price, so I snagged it.

I love Northern4-8-4 steam engines, particularly SP GS series. I already have 2 GS series, SP Daylight 4415 GS-2, Western Pacific GS-64, and now my new to me black SP GS-2 4412. 4412 was originally purchased for the Daylight servicde around 1937 and was painted in Daylight colors. As Daylight passenger service began to dwindle in the 50's it was put into GS, or General Service. When it was a Daylight locomotive is was GS - Golden State. 4412 actually ended up in San Francisco to San Jose Peninsula Commute service until scrapped in 1956.

Here's some photos. It looks and runs like brand new. It has a little dust on it, I'm thinking is spent it's life out of the box on display and not on the tracks. It shows no wear of being on the tracks and had never been lubricated. Lubrication was the first thing to due after programming the TMCC Legacy Cab2. Runs awesome!!!

Tomorrow for Front End Friday, all 3 of my GS series in a photo.
