East Bay Model Engineers Society--O scale Trolley Line (History)

At one time, many years ago, the East Bay Model Engineers Society had a total of six layouts in the same building.  O-- O Trolley--  On3   ;  HO--  HO Trolley--  HOn3 .. The layouts were in a very old building that straddled the Oakland / Emeryville (CA) city line.  The building was owned by the Santa Fe Railroad and the club rented it from the Santa Fe for $ 1.00 a year !

The building was approximately 15,000 square feet in size and the club was a faithful tenant there for forty-four years  (1940--1984).  The building was very old and leaked terribly when it rained.  It was a never-ending fight to keep the roof from leaking over the layout area !  One oldtime member said that years earlier, the building was used as a place to construct "spoke wheels" for wagons..

 The O-gauge layout (2-rail) was in a space 130 x 75 feet !  The HO-gauge layout (2-rail) was in a space 90 x 36 feet !

The O-Trolley layout was called the "Oakland, Antioch & Eastern" (named after the predecessor company, South of Sacramento) of the famous Sacramento Northern.

I am listing several links herein, so as to keep me from having to re-type so much information.  Just click on a LINK and read accordingly.  They will not be in any particular order.  Some LINKS also have photos which you may click on to make larger.

I hope all of my traction friends enjoy this bit of history !!
