Sure, we did that on Harry Henning's layout using Atlas track. You just remove the rails on the sensor track and slide it under the Atlas track, with 1/4" roadbed it fits perfectly when you remove the ties from the Atlas track. Ballast it and it disappears.

Also, Lionel is apparently bringing back the IRV2 and the extra sensors, so it'll even be easier to do it on Atlas track.
