I thought that I had posted this before; maybe elsewhere...
But, anyway: my N&W "cheater" K-2, from years ago.
Lionel factory-weathered Warhorse J, larger pilot wheels ("General" spoked), scale 2-wheel trailing truck, FWH under running board (needs doing better), scratch-ish tender. The tender was lengthened using original frame, trucks re-positioned farther apart, scratch-built body (styrene underpinnings, scratch brass shell), original TMCC electronics.
A lot of work for a cute but, at the end of the day, a loco that's still Postwar-size. Also, it runs poorly. Pullmors are a strange lot: sometimes they are smooth, steady and good enough for today. Sometimes they zoom-bog-zoom-bog...this is one of those. Gearing, I guess. Great sounds.
The Lionel "J" was my childhood favorite Lionel PW loco. Never had one until this Warhorse.
Looks pretty serious.
