Somewhere above someone mentioned the UP Steam Turbine(s) of the late 1930's - gosh yes - count me in. I want one very much.
There were two, and I understand that both tested briefly on the NYC (not in UP paint) before being sent west. Neither was actually owned by the UP, and wound up doing heavy service on the Great Northern during WWII, before being scrapped, I have read. These were steam-electrics like the Chessie and the Jawn henry, not direct-drive like the PRR 6-8-6.
Also, they were not always yellow; seemed to be in a stealth black or something during the brief NYC stay; UP painted them yellow, I guess; don't know what they looked like on the GN.
That running gear...first, take a scale PRR GG1, cut and splice the frame for the tank.. oh, boy. Yes, they really were steam locomotives.
