After watching the Eric's Trains video on the Lionel American Orient Express, I ordered the 8 car - 21"set. I plan on running them three ways. I own the MTH P-52 & DASH 8 diesels so that is historically accurate, then I have two Amtrak Midwest Chargers on order from 3Rail that will look fantastic and finally on my fantasy scheme I will have the Birkshire 777 head them out. I think the blue colors should be complementary. I intend to populate these 21" cars with people as well, on this fun luxury excursion train.
It is sad that America was unable to support this great luxury consist. The original Oriental Express is doing well in Europe even charging $50,000 for a one way ticket. The US version only charged about $10K at the hight of their hayday but did not survive the 2008 resession.
