The newer (current scheme) F40PH, I ordered because had missed the first version. I only ever saw them once at Mr. Jimmy Sutter's store in Homer City. I was there to pick up a pair of Amtrak F40PH and had a budget for the day. Mr.Sutter quipped, " you need those VIA F40PHs to help you get over the mountain headed home." Leaving there without those VIA F40's was a mistake for sure. I made it over the mountain but spent years hunting and finally finding nonpowered units.
Hope you have some luck in the hunt.
My plan is the same as yours, find whichever one pops up (powered, non-powered, 2 rail, etc.) and just buy a donor F40PH to put the shells and trim pieces on, unfortunately no luck so far, at least I have my VIA genesis engines though!
