Thanks Mark for the vote of confidence. After getting your input I went ahead with the himge section of the bridge. It looks and feels like it will hold even more weight than the bridge. Most of the weight will either be on each end of the bridge when in down position, or the linear actuator and it's connections will bear the majority of weight. Here are a couple of pics of that endeavor.
