Appreciate the offer, a friend of mine has a test jig for PS 2, so he can test it if necessary. It bothers me that I have forward and reverse as well as smoke synced to the wheel rotation, but no sound,I'm thinking the programming is intact and the problem is elsewhere. You just gave me a good place to look, I did not know about the speaker being bad even though it ohmed out ok, it is a 5 volt system. Will check it out and keep this thread updated so you'll know just what was wrong.

thanks for the input to my other thread, "cheap tools for an easier fix" your expertise is appreciated.
