Reply to "Train transformer for Ross switches"

The DZ switch machines, either the DZ-1000 or the DZ-2500 should be supplied with 12-14 VAC.

If you want to use the 18V transformer, you can reduce the voltage using diode pairs wired back to back.  Each diode pair will drop the voltage about .7 volts, so six diode pairs would drop that 18V to around 14V.

Here's the scheme using bridge rectifiers, each bridge is two diode pairs.  These two components result in about a 2.8 volt drop.  This was used to drop voltage to a motor, but the exact same scheme applies to what you're doing.
