Not sure if I understand, but if your framework has open unsupported areas of 4' x 4'; thats a lot. I could see that if you put a spot post in that you could still have droop around the post. You may need more intermediate framing. Rather than more plywood (and weight) I would put in more framing within the the open 4 x 4 area if possible.
