What current rating is needed on a Nimh 9 volt battery used in MTH PS-1 engines?

I bought 3 NOS Railking Hudsons at York that are PS-1. My understanding is that the battery should be replaced and charged before using the engines. I found some 250mah and some 600mah 9 volt batteries on line. Would either of these be acceptable in the PS-1 engines?
