What gauge wire to use on MTH Sinclair Gas station hook-up?

I am trying to hook up a used MTH Sinclair Gas station. The connectors under the gas station are really, really tiny. Stranded wire doesn't work so well. I am thinking I need to purchase some single-strand wire. The wire that came with the gas station is not long enough for my purposes. What gauge wire should I use?
