It is most likely true that since MTH currently does not have a licensing agreement with The New York State MTA they are not planning to make any new New York City Transit subway cars but will still reissue the ones that they already have the dies for.

On the other hand Lionel has had such a license with them but has fallen very short on producing more then one basic subway car design and making changes to that die to produce the R27s, the R30s and the R17s cars. Any new subway car model in the future will be a surprise to me and most of us. Just keep riding the vintage subway cars this year. 4 announced trips so far for this year by the transit museum.


       

I have the Lionel r16 i honestly love it, i feel it worth the extra cash you have to give out to get i feel Lionel put in more effort , no mth subway has interior detail as much as Lionel and no mth subway had a whole route included such as Lionel , i wish Lionel would make more sets they look more vivid then mth imagine a Lionel world fair or a new train like an r160, i hope both companies are working on something
