But you know what would really really shake things up - if Menards would expand their line to include locomotives.   Hint hint !

Be surprised if they take that hint. Locomotives are a whole 'nother ballgame. Lots more complicated to design and build, dealing with warranty/operational issues, and much more. Probably not Menard's thing to get into all that.

Menard related but a slight hijack. Ok, so, MANY of you have suggested that Menards produce a locomotive. Ok, what kind? And keep in mind the market they are selling to and what rolling stock they've issued to date, i.e. nice looking but inexpensive. Go!

A Menards Caboose with Jack the German Shepherd as Conductor.  Put me down for a dozen

I would love to see either the Plymouth or the Porter that K-line used to make done again.  If they could license the molds those would be great.

If not a 2-6-0 catalog Baldwin or a 20th century style 4-4-0. A side tank 0-6-0T like the BEDT used or the WW2 Army transport corps exported would be great.

RMT's BEEP

The beep isn't a prototype, I'm guessing most people besides people on this list would want to buy what they recognize.

Would most people, besides those on this list, recognize a Plymouth or Porter engine?  A 2-6-0 might be a good option.  A 4-4-0, although recognizable, doesn't go with anything, era wise, with what Menards has already produced.  A 0-6-0T, although not readily recognized by the general public, they would recognize a steam engine.

I was thinking more along the lines of some type of diesel.   GP7/9's, GP38's, GP40's (although most people wouldn't now the difference between a 38 or a 40.)  Dash 8's.   My assumption is that diesels are cheaper to produce than steam engines.
