Personally I think it looks pretty good but I know out there there are Pennsy and Santa Fe fans whos heads are about to explode, I might even try my hand at making one!

go nuclear and put the bonnet on both ends
I also came up with this one...
Definitely would look better on a scale model than the traditional size.

I love it!!!
I personally like causing people to have conniptions. On any given day visiting my layout, you may see my Daylight Cab Forward pulling a consist of Lionel Phantom passenger cars. Like wise, you'll see the Phantom loco hauling coal dump cars around the loops.
It's also why I hope the Santa Fe Acela from the new new catalog is built since I ordered one.
I prefer the version with the wide space between the double sided bonnets. Here are a few of mine that I did a number of years back:
After teasing everyone, you must try it! And if you have 2, how about doing the black bonnet scheme?
I've seen uglier!
It looks good to me and I know a friend of mine would pay big bucks to get one of those as he's a Santa Fe Fan big time.
SORRY, but I am WITH the hissing cat! LOL!
There was a local Chicago area HO modeler that did a Santa Fe "zebra stripe" GG1 decades ago.
But I did find this at an S Fest in 2016:
No, I didn't buy it. I was conserving funds at the time.
Rusty
Penn Line offered their HO GG1 in the last run around 1957 if I recall in New Haven, Northern Pacific, Great Northern.
Love the first one!
If Lionel follows this forum I guess we should watch for this in a future catalog.

I would buy this in a heartbeat!
Well the GG1 is the non-starter for me, because I'm not even the slightest fan of the GG1.

This would be a sharp looking model - especially if done by 3rd Rail/Sunset.
Perhaps the moderators should delete the images in this topic as obscene.
If you REALLY want to mess with people, take a tradtional engine, paint it in Daylight colors and post it in the 3RS forum. Of course, you will have put kadees on it.

Grab your torches and pitchforks, cue the auto-de-fe music... looks like the heretics are loose again
Gratefully, a scale sized GG-1 (all hail the scale GG-1’s) will not run on a 4x8 (or an 8x4 for that matter)!!!
Jonathon, While all three are nice, if a Breast Cancer one was done today, that would be spot on! Very Nice!
For those who need a safe space from these schemes
And now back to the topic. Photoshopped this one last decade.
If only I had the artistic skill to do a GG1 in NYC lightning stripes that would also inflict a great deal of psychic damage.

If you do a search on GG1s, there are several examples of NYC Lightning Stripe GG1s on the forum!

Lucky for me I guess, I must have a "Traditional" Lionel size GG1 cause she runs on tight curves quite smoothly :-D
While Jerry's War bonnet and Jonathan's UP version may make some PRR hearts skip a beat, Gerry Morlitz has a lightning stripe model that stops those hearts.
Jerry I like your attitude.
Miggy, that is one GG1 with a ton of character. Love it. As far as the GG1 Santa Fe color scheme goes I'm with Tinplate Art and the hissing cat on this one.
BTW: I am a BIG Penns Fan living in Central Pa growing up as a kid in Pittsburgh, but my first Lionel Train is and was the 2353 War Bonnet F Units. So with saying all of that I prefer this one. The other has to much red! The only thing I would add would be a BIG Tuscan PRR Keystone in the middle of the silver to honer the heritage.
Agreed, The Keystone Herald must go in the middle'... and you have a winner'...👍😁
How about the ATSF Logo in a Keystone? I'm not on my graphics computer or I would do one.
Run that with the new Santa Fe Acela. Side point, someone should make a near scale (think imperial sd70 or es44) for the gg1. O54 or o72 is too large for a lot of people and the o27 Lionel one is really toy like.
What's next, a warbonnet Acela.

Isn't that in the latest Big-L catalog???
And, BTW....

...and,
MHO, of course.

The real GG1s had swinging pilots.
So these are all delightfully silly. But serious question... What's with the GG1 love in general? Do people like it because "it's so ugly it's cute" kind of thing? Like Pugs? Or Amy Schumer?
Seriously, the thing is hideous. It looks like a confused hair dryer with an inferiority complex and a pantograph.
I think you need a blue and yellow warbonnet.
Could you imagine a GG1 in one of the following?
- The New Haven's Yellow McGinnis
- GN's Big Sky Blue
- Southern Railway's Green and White
- Airforce One (Bush #4141)
- Canadian National's Red, Black, & White
- CNJ's Coast Guard Scheme
- VIA Rail's Blue, Yellow, & Silver
-SP's Bloody Nose
- Lehigh Valley's Snowbird
To add to this madness... I will try to create a few of these "what-if" schemes when I have some free time
