I have a question. Any time I need a part number for a Lionel product, a few of you always have the answer. While I appreciate it very much, I would like to be able to not bother you fine people. My question is how? Is there an online resource I could use myself?

I really hate bugging you fine folks with questions I might be able to find the answers to myself. I've got Jeff at the train tender stumped on a couple parts.

Go to Jeff Kane's parts list.  jeff@ttender. com

How do you use  his parts list? If I'm looking up something for say a 2056 or a box car, or a flat car, how do you look it up? The 2056 center rail pickups start with 2035, so how do I know what to look for? All I've ever seen is part numbers. I need more of a product (suck as a 2056) parts list. I hope I'm explaining that well enough.

Jerry if you’re a Lionel postwar operator and want to tinker and repair your own trains than you really need a copy of Greenberg's Repair & Operating Manual for Lionel Trains. This has exploded views with parts number and assembly layout of almost all the trains with these items. I’ve found this to be invaluable over the years.

@the nitro man - Or you can also call Bill Harrison (S & W Parts) who - in addition to being a great guy and very helpful - is also a sponsor on this Forum.  Check out his website (by clicking on his yellow box on the masthead above when it comes up) as he specializes in Lionel Post War items and has dozens and dozens of parts.

Good Luck!

... do they have anything for the mpc era?

A Greenberg book exists from 1992 (Modern Era Diagrams and Parts Lists), but Lionel essentially made the entire book publicly available as Supplements 1-20 on their website. Additional supplements (21-47) were later released but not widely published. See here to obtain an easily searchable database of all extant supplements provided by @gunrunnerjohn.

N.B. If desired, Lionel Supplement 1-9 covers MPC 1970-86. Note that the next supplement is 10. Manually edit the URL for additional iterations.
