Hello All,

Doing a photo project for Christmas, I came across a photo that had my first Lionel set that I rec’d Christmas of 1961 in the background. For years I thought that the set was only 2 cars, caboose and engine “ Texas Special”. I was shocked when I magnified the photo to show the set having the following:

# 210 red Alco FA ‘Texas Special”

# 6044 blue Airex box car

# 6112 blue Lionel Lines gondola

# 3370 green Sheriff & Outlaw car

# 6057 red Lionel Lines SP style caboose

Was this a common set? Or, was the 3370 added to it? I am really curious about this. I have seen “Texas Special” box art that shows the train with a tank car. Any and all information would be welcome.

Regards

Hello Chuck,

I have been doing a little more digging and this is what I came up with remember.......

I remember using a Lionel 1010 style transformer, but I also remember a pre-war American Flyer transformer with a cloth covered power cord and a black control knob on the top. These served until the arrival a year later of a LW transformer. This powered my first layout and is still going strong and is today running the Christmas layout. I have several LW's and just love them!

Also, remember that my Grandmother and mother selling my Uncles American La France. We had a pantry off the dinning room and the trains were stored under a cabinet and a man coming one night and taking them away.

Thanks for the info about the stuff. The only thing that  might be a curve ball is that my Alco has no front coupler. I still have all of the parts of what I guess my parents put together for me. The cars have lots of battle scars but its still rolling around the layout!

The Christmas of 1963 Santa brought me my treasured LW transformer and my baby - the 2359 Boston & Maine. This one ran for years and years, then during one of my moves just vanished, never to be seen again!

Thanks for reading this walk down memory lane!
