Could this be a programing issue? if so how does one go about reprograming the engine? I believe the IR is working as I get train sounds at startup and the whistle and bell work.
It is most likely the chuff switch in the engine. Its either broken and needs to be replaced or it just needs an adjustment. The lever that moves the smoke piston also operates the micro switch.
You should be able to hear the micro switch click when pressing in the small metal lever that presses against the smoke lever. If you do, it might need a slight adjustment with a needle nose plier. If you don't hear anything, it needs to be replaced.
