I have an old CNJ 621 blue switcher that has a bad e unit, but the motor appears to run. I would like to add an Electric RE Co A.C. commander and sound, but I'm concerned about the older motor. Will it draw too much current? Any other issues with adding TMCC to an engine this age?

Thanks.

Since this is going to be a birthday gift, the wife sent out for it today.

Roy of Royztrains sent an email that I might want to use larger capacitors than come with the kit, owing to the excessive noise these postwar motors generate.

Has anybody out there used the AC commander with bigger caps, and if so, what size/capacitance?

Thanks.

I jus got it installed, with the caps that came with it, and the railsounds F3/F7 board. It runs the engine perfectly, and the sound is great, but the motor rattles a lot at low speed. At high speed around the layout, it's fine, but most railroads don't switch at 80 mph. There appears to be some grease left on the gears, and I'm going to add some, but is the rattling related to the capacitor size?

Also, I want to add warm white LED's to the engine, but the AC commander seems to be designed for bulbs. What size resistor should I put in series with the LED?

Royz does sell LED circuits ready made, but there isn't much room left inside the shell.

Thanks.

Yesterday I added a AC Commander and sound to a post war Trainmaster.  That went pretty easy.  Then went over board and installed directional LED headlight and markers,  I made my own wired up LED's, used a 470ohm 1/2 watt resistor... the only thing to remember is the ground side of the LED goes to the light connection on AC commander and the resister wire is now going to the ground side, otherwise they won't light up,.  I used 3mm cool white for head lights and 2mm red tower led's for the markers.  Looks sweet with the room lights off...
