Any low profile 022 switch covers?

Has anyone seen or made low profile covers for their Lionel 022 switches? For the first time I paired my MTH Dash9 with an 022 this Christmas and saw that the middle overhang caught on the switch cover.

I know I can swap the side that the motor is on but that doesn't help when the 022 is near the edge of the layout and the motor has to be on the inside of the turnout.

Has anyone modified the cover to clear overhanging engines or cars? If I recall properly, the mechanicals inside are no where near the top inside corner of that cover. It almost seems like there must be a new, low profile style cover available by now. If not, it sounds like a money making idea for someone with molding experience!

I don't know how much of your engine is catching, but I had a minor problem where the fuel belly was just scraping the switch motor. I fixed the problem by leaving the cover's screws off and wedged the cover as far away from the rails as possible. I think I picked up a quarter inch of additional clearance. For the wedge I stacked strips of black electrical tape at the front bottom edge of the switch motor cover. Almost impossible to see the fix.

You can also go with 3010/3011 switches, they're a drop-in replacement for the 022 and lower profile. There is normally a short straight section that also comes with these and that makes the profile the same as an 022. I use these where space is at a premium and 022's won't fit. Also, the lantern is removable so you have a really low profile if desired, the operating mechanism is in the low profile block with the terminals, not under the lantern.

Correct, they're Lionel switches. I have done a couple of reliability "tweaks" to mine to make them work better. I'd prefer 022 switches everywhere, but there are places where the 022 simply won't work with that big switch motor sticking out. These are great for tight places.

The actual Lionel numbers are 6-23010 and 6-23011 for the right and the left. I bought some in forum listings, others on eBay. There are a number of them listed on eBay right now.

i took a few of my covers and cut the covers back to the front of the light so from the light to the track there is no cover then i took tape covered the parts inside the switch then took clay and molded cover just above parts so its low and i had painted the clay black. thats was perfect i had engines that would only navigate 042 now will do 022 switches
