Yes.
Thanks - are the Atlas trucks and wheels metal? How does Atlas compare, quality-wise, to Pecos River?

I'm seeing a lot of this on eBay auctions for Atlas Cars:
Each car features die-cast metal or plastic trucks, operating knuckle couplers, metal wheels and axles.
So - are the trucks metal or plastic??

I believe that depends on the specific Atlas car line, i.e. the Atlas "Gold Line" cars would have metal trucks, while the lesser scale line (can't remember the Atlas name for them) might have plastic trucks. All the Atlas "top of the line" cars I have are all metal trucks.

The lower Atlas line is called "Trainman." These are likely to have the plastic trucks. That said, I believe they're still to scale, just like the higher priced line.
Both Master and Trainman rolling stock trucks have die-cast frames and metal (brass) wheels, no plastic.
Will an advertised two-rail Pecos River or Atlas roll smoothly on my Gargraves track?
If so - will Atlas and Pecos River cars look good together in a consist?

Buy em both and find out...
I would think so.
Dick (two railer)
OLD Atlas rolling stock ( I believe this was from Germany) did have all plastic trucks, wheels, and couplers. Notice the vertical plastic "peg" on the coupler; easy to spot. In general, they sell cheap on eBay. They are scale, and when Weaver was in business, I converted more than a few of these to Weaver trucks.
They fall WAY short of the high-end offerings by Atlas today.

Close: Made in Austria by Roco.
Plus, Bev-Bel sold undecorated kits after Atlas dropped the line and Petersen Supply also sold custom decorated cars.
Still, they are very nice cars for their time and nothing to sneeze at. At $7.00 MSRP, even in 1971 they were a bargain.

I've also seen "Industrial Rail" as a header on the box made by Atlas. Anyone familiar with that?

IR is entry level just like railking rugged rails
I have a couple of the Pecos River 50 ft, double door boxcars. They are almost identical to Atlas Masterline boxcars. The trucks are identical, the Pecos River car details (like grab irons) seem to me to be a bit more robust than Atlas, and the under frame detail is much better on Atlas (Pecos River under frames are pretty basic). They look to me they were designed by the same people and made in the same factory.

Thanks Ken. Good info. I haven't see the word "Masterline" on any boxes yet.

Industrial Rail are traditional-sized cars like the smaller postwar Lionel line. Cross those off your list if you are comparing everything to Pecos River.

Masterline is the regular delineation of the line, also have trainman and industrial rail.
They also have 1 item in the "founders" series as well.

Thanks!
The team of people at Atlas use the term MASTER for the most detailed cars.
The Trainman series or line has one finely detailed model. It is the PS-2 3-bay covered hopper.
