I have A coal mine / barge unloading scene I am building. I have A few Beeps I would like to have electric couplers work on so I can hook up and disconnect the coal cars in that area. Is it possible that electric couplers can be installed and work through the TMCC system? Thank you for any help and take care. Choo Choo Kenny

I'm certain ERR has a basic board at a reasonable price that not only would give you control over couplers but also throttle and directional control. Mounting a new set of coil couplers should be easy plus there's plenty of room inside for a basic board and antenna.
Back in the infancy days of TMCC, Lionel offered an upgrade kit for dummy locos that added command control couplers and directional lighting via an LCRX board. I have such an animal but the couplers in the kit are 1/2" longer than the stock BEEP's, although they will work. Just mentioning these in case you happen across the kits cheap. Upgrade kits # 6-2961, 6-2962 and 6-2979

Bruce thank you for the reply. The Beeps that I have bought already have TMCC installed in them and I am just guessing that they would be able to throw the electric couplers? I am not sure about that but if I got electric couplers installed all I would need is the 2 wires from the coupler soldered to the board in the right places and hopefully they will be able to work or do I need to have other electronic stuff/boards installed to make them operate? Thanks for any help/information and take care. Choo Choo Kenny
I have done it on 2 beeps with the ERR boards and have no issues.
What kind of Command board do these engins have????
Chances are the existing ERR board already has 2 empty 2 pin Molex outlets just waiting for your coil coupler upgrade, Kenny. At least that is what I'm getting if I fully understand what Jeff wrote.
Easiest way to determine that is to pop off the shell and look for the empty white receptacles.

Hi Jeff,
Could you mention the part numbers of the coil couplers and mounting hardware you used?
Thanks!
Take care, Joe.

I am confused a little on what you are asking, but Yes, if you have TMCC and Electro couplers on your engine, the couplers can be fired remotely with a CAB-1 or CAB-2 using the coupler buttons.
Do you have a Model # it would help. G
Thank you everyone for the help. I do not know what board is in the 1 beep that I bought from an OGR forum member. The RMT Beeps do not come with TMCC. Now that I have found out that they can have TMCC put into them I want to have it installed in the other 2 I have. I do not know who makes electric couplers that will work (with little modification ) on the Beeps. I have to go to the hospital to get A pic line taken out and A new one put in because the old one is infected. When I get back I will open up the 1 Beep and find out what (board) is in it and post it for further possible help. After reading Jeff's post I looked up ERR and I now have A better understanding of how things work for installing TMCC. I just need to know what electric couplers to get and install on the Beeps. For now I will need 3 sets for the 3 Beep's I want to change. Again thank you for any help and take care. Choo Choo Kenny
Mounting the couplers onto the BEEP is going to be the tricky part, firing them is easy with the ERR Cruise Commander Lite or the ERR Mini Commander 2 (coupler version). I have a couple of command equipped BEEPs, but I didn't install the couplers.
