That's great. I've discussed this a number of times with some friends - although in our mid-60s, we think of ourselves like we're still 30. A youthful attitude is a wonderful thing.

Bill, best wishes for a quick recovery.

All,
I called him yesterday morning and was told by a family member that he had passed away earlier in the morning. I am sadden and shocked beyond words as I have done business with him for years and as a fellow military aircrew member talked many an hour with him about flying and current events. Bill was a helo pilot in Vietnam. I've never met a more genuine and compassionate fella than Bill Lewis!  I shall miss him terribly! God rest his soul.

His son Tim has posted the email address on his website to send condolences.

Regards,
Lance

OMG, I can't believe it.

We've spent hours talking about flying.

A great loss to our hobby!

Yep, I'd call with an order and he had it in the mail the same day that I put the check in the mail. That's the kind of guy that one deals with over and over again - and I did.

I also had a few general conversations with him; enjoyable and intelligent. Never met him, but it still puts a bit of gloom in the house.

Yes, he was a great asset to the hobby and anybody who has dealt with him could tell he was great guy all-around.

My sincerest condolences to his family.

R.I.P. Bill

Hello everyone, this is Tim, Bill's son.  As you know by now my father passed early Tuesday morning.  His death was swift and took us all by surprise.  He was sent to a hospice facility in Sandusky Ohio which he was not happy with until I google mapped it and he found out there was a train yard in close proximity and he could see the trains go by.  He was scheduled to be brought home Tuesday afternoon but the last whistle came too early.  Reading these messages, I want to thank you all for your kind words.  He was truly an amazing father, grandfather, husband, and of course train guy.  I realize some of you may have repairs at his house.  Please email me at mttp6@hotmail.com  and I will get them back to you after the first week in October.  If you would like to send condolences to my mom please do so here

Again, on behalf of my family, thank you

I had the opportunity to talk to Bill just once yet from that conversation I immediately realized Bill lived and loved his passion of trains. He will not only be be missed for his knowledge of model trains and fairness to others but most importantly for being an all around truly nice and engaging gentleman. Model railroading has lost yet another pillar of knowledge and expertise. My sympathy and condolences to all fortunate to have crossed his path and especially Bill's family and close friends.

Thank you very much Tim for the thoughtful post. As you can tell your Dad was very well thought of here as wonderful guy even by the many of us who never actually met him.

God bless you and your family as you deal with the situation there.

Many of us were of his generation - what age was he please?

His obituary (http://www.norwalkfuneral.com/obituaries.php?id=923) said 64, c.sam.  Way too young for anyone to be called from friends and loved ones.

I, too, am greatly saddened to learn of Bill's passing.  Like many others on the forum, I spent many hours in telephone conversation with Bill.  If I called to order a part, or to ask if he could get it, we could talk for a half hour or more, before I got to tell him why I called.  If I needed advice, on a project I was working on, I could call Bill. He was a "go to guy".  Always helpful.  I am sorry I never had the opportunity to meet him.

My condolences to his wife Agnes, his kids, and grandkids (whom he liked to talk about).

George
