AFAIK, the last time the subject of replacement roofwalks for O boxcars was discussed on this forum was in 2013. The OP had an Intermountain kit.....felt the included roofwalks not up to the standards of the rest of the kit...wondered about replacements.
At that time you could get etched walks for 40' and 50' boxcars from Precision Scale. But, apparently no longer. They were, indeed, pricey. And in the end, as Dave Minarik pointed out, the etching was faulty...the sides easily detached.
So, anyone aware a supplier of 40', 50' metal roofwalks (Kadee-quality plastic, or etched metal)? Of course, there were a variety of styles, such as Morton, Gypsum, Transco, Apex, et al. But at this point in the hobby, we work with what can be had....eh what?
In this quarantining era, I'm finally building from a supply of old kits. Those having steel-sided cars beg a better roofwalk/runningboard than came in the kit.
I know some of the Big Guys (Blue/Purple/Orange boxes) have made improvements, but since their production is yet in the land of complete-assemblies-only-no-parts-for-separate-sale, I was just wondering if I'd missed a new cottage-kid on the block for this highly visible detail??
Thanks for consideration.
