you could remove the batteries after using it.

May just be the batteries you are using.

I thought I was experiencing the same problem. Seemed like every time I picked it up I had to replace batteries. But my current set of batteries, from radio shack, have been in it for over a year and still work great.

Is this a known Cab-1 problem? Any fix besides putting in a manual on-off switch?

Sticking button?

If the keypad and sensor pad(under the buttons) are dirty, it could be that the power-down is not happening due to believing it is still being used.

I believe that Dale Manquen may do repairs on the Cab 1, you might contact him.

I'm looking for a new Cab-1 remote to replace my 17 year old one that finally gave out. Used is okay too, as long as it works and isn't beat up. My email is in my profile, thank you for your time

I repair CAB-1s.  What are the symptoms of your unit?
