Cannot get black modules to load

Did you try to configure the serial port for low speed, that will sometimes help.  With the LSU, can you do other operations like edit configurations?

You may have a base issue.  Can you put the 1.3 blue modules in and attempt to load them?

Gunrunner here is what I did tried a couple usb to serial connector also tried the lionel cord as well checked com ports tried the low speed to no avail, tried different computers as well.  I have 1.3 in both base and handheld and have tried different computers.  I am starting to suspect the base as the issues because  I have not been able to get a tmcc asc to work either out of the serial port.  I am going to try some other things today and try to clear this up.  I did take and reload the 1.3-blue moduale in the base and it took as the manual says it should.  The base is connecting no problem there.  Do not see why this is such an issue as I do dcs updates all the time and lionels set-up has to work fine or so many folks here would not have the success they are having.  Thanks for the help will let you guys know if I have any luck and what helped.  Merry Christmas to all.  Chief

If possible, take the base to a location where they have a working serial connection to the base and see if it works there.  That's a quick test to see if the serial communications has issues.

I assume you are talking about a club or someone running legacy, I know of no one since I live in a rural area.

Bummer, that's usually the easiest way to diagnose these issues.  How about a different computer with a different serial port?

Yes John I have tried two different laptops, a desktop as well 3 different r232/usb cables,  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the lst and the 1.51 files as well nothing works.  Here is what makes me wonder about the base I have hooked a lionel asc trying to get my base to communicate to nothing will work I do not believe this base can communicate.  This is one of the first legacy units out so it appears I have other issues as i cannot get this base to communicate to an asc no flashing green lights on the asc which is why I believe the base has a problem.   Would I be better off using going thru a serial port on base to usb port on laptop or would i BE BETTER OFF GOING TO A SERIAL PORT ON THE LAPTOP, PRESENTLY AM DOIG R232-BASE TO USB/COMPUTER.  THANKS CHIEF

Well, if it's not worked on multiple computers and the ASC, I think it's probably time to send it back to Lionel.

Did not know being a vet made any difference, does 14 in the army and 20 in usaf qualify?  One thing I will say is I should be a little perturbed but I hafta say Mike R and his people bend over backwards to take care of you when you have a problem and their turn around time is outstanding.
