I have included a short video with the whistle.  All I can say is WOW!!!  There is a volume knob on the back of the tender, I have it at full blast.  THe engine is a very quite runner and can do slow speeds.  The passenger cars look great (the doors even open).  You can also see the large size of the merchandise car versus  a 6464 type box car. 

 

My friends at Eastside Trains in Kirkland WA called me on Monday to tell me that the Berkshires have arrived (plus other stuff).  I had concerns on Tuesday morning that I would not be able to get there because of two inches of snow was on my car in Tacoma. I was able to get there after work and Johnny, Steve and I opened the box before I headed home that took nearly two hours in stop and go traffic all the way back to Tacoma.  I purchased the set with the Madison passenger cars, and also got the Merchandise car.

So, I have posted a few more pictures. First, its really a nice looking loco, the coat is dull, not shiny.  I have not been able to run it yet, I needed to redo all of the ceilings in my house over the summer, and needed to dismantle my layout. plan to rebuild!
There are traction tires on the back wheel set.  The magnetraction seems very light to me, I have a picture of my 736 and the wheels are holding a nail, the new 726 can't.  Jim Policastro flew in today to do an inspection of the baldwin disc drives, he is standing next to the ones on my 675 and then walked over to compare them to the new ones on the 726. He commented that the new discs look like faithful reproductions, but they are smaller than the ones on the 675. He couldn't remember if the discs on the old 726 were the same size as the 675 (in his rush to get here, he left his 726 at home) so someone else will need to weight in.
He also looked at the new BNSF Auto Racks.  They are really, really big!

The Merchandise car has two shoes. I don't know enough about its opperation to tell you much about it.

Very nice Brewman.

 

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to recall that the original 726 had green jeweled lenses on the side of the marker light housings as well didn't they?  It seems based on the pictures of the reproduction above that that the cavities are filled in where they normally would be.  I know that the original went through a few variations but I don't recall if this was ever part of that, maybe someone else can chip in and clarify.

 

It's a really nice looking engine though.  The detailed bulkhead inside the cab is a definite improvement over the original as well as the WBB version, even if there still isn't enough room for the engineer & fireman to sit down.

How many sliding shoes are on the boxcar trucks?  The Postwar ones had two each.

The couplers appear to be magnetic (not mention on bar end trucks) so I assume only one pair of sliding shoes would be needed.

Nice looking engine though. BTW you should be able to tap the stack down flush with the smokebox and hide the brass connector.

I'm not sure what year this is supposed to represent. 1948? The engine looks very nice overall, with the addition of details the original didn't have, like the backhead. But there are detail differences beetween this and the original, like missing class lamp lenses as John noted, and lots of other detail on the firebox sides. There are detail additions, such as the cab hand rails and a front-end throttle lever on the boiler shell. There's also an extraneous boiler band in front of the bell, and an unusual application of handrail stanchions.

 

But overall it captures the look of the original.

Yeah, it's too far back but it's better than looking at the back of a Pullmore motor I suppose. It's actually a pretty accurate representation of a NYC Hudson backhead.

I can't compare yet, but it may be the same back head used in the 2056 baby Hudson.

In the ninth picture down, is that a traction tire on the front driver? If this is the version with "Baldwin" wheels, I guess no magnetraction, so this is closer to the 1946 version? Does the 2426W tender have the 1984-ish 783 open bottom trucks that MPC came out with? How does the whistle sound? Is it a real air whistle? I didn't pre-order, but it looks like a trip to Berwyn's Toy Trains is in order Saturday! I'm so excited.

THe greater Seattle-Tacoma area will cancel school on the threat of snow.  too many drivers with bald tires trying to drive on hills in the snow..., Actually, I have not put my snow tires on yet, so this snow caught me by surprise...

I haven't used those since my '73 Valiant.  Being retired has it perks.  If it rains or snows, I don't go.  Reminds me of the old tire commercial.  "You go in snow, or we pay the tow".
