Speaking of TMCC on the Forum today, I have an SD90 which the smoke unit fan does not stay on unless you press the CAB2 “R” (reset) button continuously. Otherwise it just goes on briefly when you change sounds or something, but not when pressing the smoke button (+).

It also seems to weakly respond to the TMCC signal,, the headlight blinking occasionally. All other engines are solid with the signal. So it’s the engine.

Any thoughts? Thank you.

What's weird is that the +/- buttons do nothing, other buttons like sound etc. will cause the fan to run for a second or two, and holding R down causes the ran to run continuously while you hold the R down. I don't feel any heat coming out. I guess try another receiver...

All good now. In poking around, trying a different radio board to improve the reception and so forth, the engine started to respond like new with the old radio board. Now I remember when I was pressing +/- before, I was not getting the steam sound from the engine. So the signal strength was the issue I guess. I measured the smoke resistor voltage and it is about 7 vac. So I rebuilt the smoke unit, took off the covering over the resistor and new 008 batting. Drilled out the intake hole to 1/4 inch and the gasket. Smokes incredibly well now. I hope there was not a badly soldered pin on a connector. I've been thru that before, but I'll just see how it goes. If the issue returns, that'll be the path I'll take.

Thanks for the help.
