I have BNSF Dash-9 (6-18291) where the magnet broke I am using a CAB-2 to address features. I installed an ERR Diesel Odyssey Cruise Commander M CRM 6.0 and a R4LC-C08. The Lionel manual 71-8290-250 has addressing the radio board using a CAB-1. Also shows on page 10 of this manual explains the way to set the engine odyssey feature. I set the features per ERR manual using TMCC features. When I start turning the control wheel engine takes off. I have replaced three different DCDR did the same two of them took off and one DCDR blew a capacitor. I programed the engine to 1 and CAB 1 and Railsounds and the motors takes off but stop when I hit DIR, Then I tried to program engine 1 to TMCC and RS5 acts the same. Then I programed engine 1 to R100 Railsounds again the same. The feature program was set to aux1 8 and finally I tried a Lionel R2LC Radio Receiver. And the same thing happen.s. All the features work except the motors.

The classic reason for the CC-M to take off is no serial data getting to the board.
I have no idea what all the DCDR talk is about, are you talking about the old TMCC DCDR? What does that have to do with getting the CC-M running?

I took out the DCDR and replaced it with 3 different CCM and the motor still takes off.
I did ohm meter test on the serial cable and it is good. Should I hard wire it?

Where did you wire the serial data line? Are you SURE you wired it to pin 24 of the R2LC connector? If you're wiring it to the wrong place, that would account for the continued failures. Are you programming the engine type properly for the CC-M?
I can buy that you might get one bad CC-M, but three or four, no way!

There is another reason for the CCM to "take off."
There is a bug on some R4lC boards, If track power is brought up slowly with a chopped wave supply, the CCM will boot up before the radio board does. The CCM will think it is in conventional mode.
Try applying power instantly, like AIX1,9 with a TPC or Legacy Powermaster, or applying track power and holding the track direction key down for a few seconds. Do that before addressing the loco.

Still having problem with CCM Placed new R4LC 08 board still takes off by turning control knob just a bit. programed DSL-CAB1-RS Aux #8 then I tried DSL-TMCC-RS Aux #8 and finally DSL-R100-RS Aux #8 still no success. Tried removing Sound Board and Power Board still same Soldered Serial wire on pin 24 of the R4LC 08 still same. I read somewhere that they cut pin 24 on the R$LC ob and attached serial wire Would I have to do anything else. Any Ideas that could help?

I have about three CC-M and I will try them all again. Will let you know how it goes.
Swapping the CC-M would obviously be high on my list. I can buy maybe one is bad, but multiple bad modules unless they've been abused would be very unusual! I've handled hundreds of CC-M modules over the years, and I've only had two that I remember that were genuinely bad, one was just a bad solder on an SMT component joint that was easily fixed, and the other one was simply in LaLa land, it seemed the microprocessor was off in space.
Obviously, my first inclination when I suspect a bad board or module is to take them to my test set and just individually test them.

Thank You I have tried to use several CCM boards with the same results. I even stripped the Mother Board down to using only the R4LC and CCM with two motors. I hate to give up on this repair. I had some other ideas that might work I have a printout of the mother board 691PBC111E I will be trying to see if there is a wiring problem. By the way I tried from the package and each CCM failed the same way.

I think it's time to individually test pieces in a totally different environment. If you have something wired wrong and you're smoking the CC-M boards, it's going to get expensive! This is why I have this test board, it has connections to test almost any TMCC board including the ERR CC-M and RS-Lite boards. This is my go-to for individual board tests, then I start looking at the environment once I've determined all the pieces are functional.
Yes, this grew a little at a time, it was a simple board when I started, but each time I needed to test a new component, I added connectors, etc.

You may want to review the power connections on the CC-M. I had roller and ground transposed on one of my installs and it caused runaways at start. No permanent damage was caused and correcting the power polarity restored normal function and performance.
WOW, I'm surprised that swapping the power polarity didn't fry something. Don't do that with the full Cruise Commander, you will release some magic smoke!
Huh, we talking AC power in? I can see it messing with Serial data but how would it fry the board. G
First thing it hits is the bridge rectifier. Probably lifted ground so it flattened the serial comm. It lived nonetheless and is running my Y3. My habit is to test at half potential anyway.
From memory, I think if you attempt to use any existing DCDR plug you may find the power is out of phase. There’s a reason they were shipped with a new plug.

Everything external to the Cruise Commander is ground referenced, so any outside connection for smoke, lights, chuff, or serial data will be referenced to track power instead of ground.

I test the boards using lionel test bench and the motor runs OK when Insert it into the engine by moving the red knob it takes off at top speed when I turn knob to stop it stops. Hope you get this picture and video did not go very well

Finally got back to working on problem with CCM not working properly checked serial data pin24 on R4LC about 4.3 volts replaced R4LC still same I then replaced the mother board and all worked OK just to see if mother board was causing problem I put the original mother board in and it failed. Now engine is fixed
