I'm in need of some help or explanation please.

I bought a Dash-9 Santa Fe #6-18258 with SignalSounds & Smoke.

The only Sounds that come out are the Horn & Bell and  the smoke works.

Whats confusing is that there is a SND ON/OFF Switch under the CAB

that doesn't seem to do anything when pushed.

Engine is from the 1999 Classic III Lionel Catalog...

I haven't been able to find info on the switch function.

I have pictures of the inside of the unit and there is a 9V Battery connector

wrapped in plastic from the factory.

I tried attaching a battery, doesn't change anything.

I'd appreciate any help that the members can give.

SPSF is correct.  This looks like the Command Upgradeable Engine.  You have everything installed too accept a R2LC in place of the reverse board and then add the RS board in place of SS and a Power Supply board in the open space.

The battery and switch, are all preinstalled in support of the upgrade.   Your engine is functioning correctly for what is installed.  G

Guys,

Thx for the explanation and help, It is very clear now.

So I would have to replace (2) boards and add a new one ?

Would this be a TMCC upgrade or just Railsounds ?

There's a piece of metal attached to a stadoff near the front of the cab

with a single wire attached, Is this an antenna ?

Can the (3) boards be purchased for this unit ?

Is there an upgrade Kit (Part Number?)

Thx again!!!

Andy

If you replace the three boards, you'd have TMCC and RailSounds.  The R2LC replaces the reverse board, and the RailSounds boards replace the SignalSounds boards and also plug into the empty connector.

As I recall, on some of them, you might have to run an antenna if it's not already there, but I think that's about the extent of it.  It's mostly plug-n-play.

You can also add electrocouplers pretty easily when you have the full TMCC configuration.  There are a couple of two pin connectors where the couplers plug in on the motherboard.
