I have heard that the Opposed Piston FM diesels had a unique sound, different from the Alco and EMDs.    I have a set without sound.   It might be nice to get sound if you find one.

Also, there does not seem to much available in O scale for Baldwins either.

One option if you can find a decoder is use an NCE motor decoder to control the loco and piggy back an HO sound decoder that has FM sounds.

How would you know what an Erie-built sounds like?

Funny.  I wouldn't know, but like other diesels with sound, I rely on the manufacturer of DCC sound products.  Of the first generation diesels I've heard, EMD F & E units are the only ones I remember to some degree.

This is about as close as I can come today:

What I meant was, if you don't know what the thing sounds like, any Diesel sound would do.  How could you be dissatisfied if you had nothing to compare it to?

Bob the problem comes when you are running more than one diesel and they are prototypes from different manufacturers (EMD, Alco, etc) even different models from the same manufacturer which used different motors.  The two engines shouldn't have the same sound.

I imagine the QSI would be closer? 12 cyl. vs 6 cyl is nearer to your target.

I agree Chris, thanks.

LOKSound has the LokSound Select Diesel "FM 12cyl-38D" Gauge 0, H0 slated to be made. I am a big fan of the ESU decoders, they sound amazing and are pretty affordable. If you have a programmer you can program the sound sets yourself.Tsunami also has an FM soundset that sounds really good
