Locomotives are not required by the FRA to have marker lights. I have a box of EMD marker lights which was given to me by a friend who works for a railroad after they removed all of them from the units of a railroad they acquired.

UP DD35s DID have markers.

I've only seen marker lights on a DD40AX and on only one engine the #6936 currently in service.
Don't know why I confused marker lights for brake lights??? Must be age...Anyway, I love the consist in this photo. Check out the very cool observation car.

I didn't (and still don't know) alot about DD35 details such as marker lights, etc.

Regardless, I didn't expect a lot of proto-typical detail in mine for two reasons.
1) The text in the catalog announcing several roadnmaes that never owned DD35s- (" . . . these "what if" schemes . . . " on page 36 of the 2011 Sign catalog).
Yes, I know that UP actually owned DD35s, but I figured if they were offering fantasy roadnames then accuracy was probably not that high of the list of features they were striving for.

2) Price. I know $600 is not cheap. But relatively s[eaking, its nearer low than high, at least for something so big, with eight-wheel trucks, and two smoke units, etc., dual motors, and Legacy and cruise. Consider that the little Atlantic steamer on page 6 of the same catalog is conventional only with no Legacy and no cruise, and its $550. I expected that, for the money, there would not be a lot of details of the DD35, period. As to marker lights, I figure they were just left off because they were part of that level of detail not included. There are other areas where the level of detail is a bit dsiapointing (the locos roof is a bit sparse compared to the real world, I think) but again, for the price I am happy with it.

Phillip,

The model that Lionel just deliverd, and what everybody is talking about, is the DD35A! The ONLY railroad to purchase DD35A units was the Union Pacific. The DD35 model had NO CAB and was just a 5000HP "booster" or "B" unit.
