Help.  Has anyone purchased the new Lionel Legacy 2-6-6-2 Steam Engine?  My C&O loses the whistle sounds when the engine is put in Sequence Control (AUX 1)  After I turn the transformer Off and then On, the Sequence Control is cancelled and the whistle now sounds.  The bell and the smoke-out-of-the-whistle work in AUX 1, but there is no whistle sound.

Nobody bought the new Lionel Legacy 2-6-6-2 ?     Lucky you.

Dean at Lionel Service sent me the C&O version #1522 as a replacement for my Vision Line GG1 #4913 Five Stripe Tuscan that Lionel could not fix on three attempts.  (Bad gears I think. There was no service report given to me.)   The C&O arrived with white paint on the top of the left walkway and a broken part off the front of the engine.  I tested the engine before sending it back and discovered the programming error.  The whistle will not manually blow in "Sequence Control" AUX 1 Key.  Smoke comes out of the whistle, but there is no sound.

Now I am getting the run-around from Lionel to return this and two other engines for service.  Dean emailed me to return them and call the Call Center, but according to Katie, Dean has to email the Call Center to tell them to accept the engines or they won't do anything, and I wasted 35 minutes on the telephone.   I was told that this is a new Lionel Policy started in December to slow down the return of repairs coming back to Lionel Service.

My CSXF40PH #9999 just came back a second time from Lionel for a stuck hatch and no smoke, and now the volume control does not work to increase or decrease volume, and there is a spot of lighter blue paint on the roof.

My 6-82768 C&O Allegheny #1604 came back from Lionel Service and stutters down the track when it reaches Speed Step 22 or higher.  I was told the person who worked on it no longer works at Lionel Service.  Sooo,  Is that my fault?

I am done buying or ordering any new Lionel, until Lionel fixes what I already have.  My new Niagara arrived with a stretched traction tire off the right side of the engine, sealed in the box. The tire was stretched and kept falling off.

In case there is any confusion, I am complaining here, because Lionel is NOT responding when I call or email them.  Some how I have to reach them.

Sincerely, John  Rowlen

John, I hate to hear you've had such a rough experience.   I can honestly say I've had the exact opposite so far in the past few years.   I certainly can understand your frustrations based off what you've shared.  I would go straight to known key individuals at this point.  As along as you keep it respectful and patient I see no harm in shaking every limb you can find sir.   In the modern day of social media a well written public post can go a long way as well.  Everyone hates to be that person but you've got to stand your ground.  I've been very fortunate recently with New Lionel product.   But I have been down this road.  I hope your experience starts to sway the other way.  Good luck sir.   Let us know what transpires.

Jeremy,  Thank you for the good advice.

Katie emailed me on January 16th saying she checked with Dean and an RA would be sent to me.

I called Lionel today, January 17, 2019, and asked when the RA would be sent.  There is a snow storm coming with up to 24 inches of snow.  I would like to get it on its way before the snow starts falling.  The person said it is up to Dean and Katie.  (This last statement is a non-answer.)

When the 6-85176 C&O 2-6-6-2 reaches Lionel, Lionel is supposed to cut me a check for $1219.94, the amount I paid Train World for my  6-82751 Vision Line GG1 #4913 that Lionel could not fix after three trips into Lionel.  The C&O was a replacement engine for the GG1.  The C&O arrived broken in the box with white paint on the left upper walkway.  The 2-6-6-2 engine's whistle does not sound in "Sequence Control" AUX 1 on the Legacy 990 Remote due to a factory programming error.

So I went from a Vision Line (Top-of-the-Line) GG1 to a broken C&O 2-6-6-2 with bad paint and a factory programming error. … And as of 6:34 P.M on January 17, 2019, I have not received the RA to return the C&O 2-6-6-2.  I am sure they have the $1219.94 in the bank to pay me for the GG1 they cannot fix, so that can't be the issue.  The shipping label just goes onto their FEDEX account.

I have other engines that have to go back to Lionel for a third time.  My CSX F40PH #9999 was in a second time for a stuck roof hatch and no smoke.  It returned from Lionel Service with a volume control that does raise or lower the volume, and a light blue spot on the roof.

My Coal Hauler Set just arrived, and the Pennsylvania H-10 #1773 has debris painted into the paint on the silver smoke stack.  One grain of debris fell off the smoke stack and exposed a black spot on this new engine. The caboose has a bent truck, but it appears to track ok.

What else can I do?

Sincerely, John Rowlen
