I am running a Legacy diesel engine with a MTH Z1000 and MTH DCS.  When I first put the engine on the tracks, set the voltage to 22, the railsounds worked intermittently for a bit.  Later when I ran the engine again, it almost seemed like I lost sound completely.

After investigating, the sound is there, just barely audible... with some static or humming.  The volume pot is all the way up, the switch is on Railsounds and the DCS volume is on max as well.

After I read in the manual (boys with toys never read the manual before getting started, we are just too excited to see the toys run), it says not to go over 19 volts or it could cause damage to "sensitive electronic components".

Wondering if I burned up something with the sound board?

Any help is appreciated... at this point, I'm looking at a warranty repair unless I missed something simple.

You might have a loose sound board since I have had that happen, but that is on K-Line trains. Otherwise it could be other things like power boards, speaker, etc. Depends on what locomotive that it is, hard it is to look inside, and how confident or willing you are to look inside. If not, no big thing just get it looked at.

FYI, a Z-1000 transformer only puts out 18 volts. If you are scrolling up the voltage on a Variable channel on the remote, it will not show the correct voltage unless the transformer is set to 22 volts and is capable of doing so.
