No ERR booth, never understood why, in fact don't remember seeing displayed at any vendor tables.  Best bet it to find a York vendor that is a distributor as ask them to bring some

Let's see,  west coast company that would have to drive with product to York, spend money for lodging, food, employee wage.....versus nationally know company advertised in the Lionel catalog, with first class website, and dealer network.  I wonder how much business they do while York is on going.   Betcha they wind up ahead staying at home.  I can understand why the may not travel.   G

Actually a nationally known company would not do it that way.

Have a nice display designed and made.
Maybe a simple setup showing how easy it is to install.
Have it shipped in advance using truck freight.
Have it professionally setup up using local labor.
Send just one knowledgeable rep and just enough inventory to have a 10% show discount and sell out. Hand everyone else a 5% coupon for online order.

Store booth locally for next year or ship back.
Do not expect an immediate profit but write it off advertising.
Think of it as an investment in the promotion of the hobby.
Win win for everyone.

But I must say, not many in this hobby do it the right way or even the normal way.
A lot of Luddites. lol.

Ouch.  I think many companies in this industry are very small operations with minimal employees.  Is there another knowledgeable person besides Ken?  I don't know for sure.  So many times going to York, means operations slow or stop at home.

York is for members only, so it is not like your having Joe public come off the street at a train show in all the major cities.  I can see more bang for your buck at those shows vice York.  All the items you listed are additional cost above having people you already pay do it. G

At least now I know who to look for--I've been searching for a number of years and would have bought at least a couple per visit had I known. Is it a sure thing that they carry them to York?

I'll be on the lookout for them as well. I don't have anything major on my "looking for" list, so might as well upgrade some of my conventional fleet.

The ERR stuff isn't like many other products.  You pretty much have to know what you're buying to be buying it, and doing it mail-order is not really an issue.

I think I have to agree that while it would be cool to see ERR represented, it's probably not all that useful for them to be there.  As Pete says, competing against your dealers is not a good idea, think back to some other recent examples we've seen in the O-gauge universe.

All good points.
Maybe the discount is a bad idea.
But the technically do compete with their distributors.
The same way that Lionel does with parts.
Competition is not always about cost.
Sometimes it's about ease and speed.

Ps. I did not know that one had to join something to go to York.
Now I do. Guess I will not plan on going. Lol
