A schematic was posted on this forum a few years ago. Its essentially a pair of transistors that buffer the chuff signal so it can drive both the chuff input on an audio or radio board and the smoke fan. I have built them and it works but its pretty basic. The fan will be on for as long as the chuff switch contacts are closed so you end up with steady stream at fairly slow speeds unlike other solutions which limit fan on and off times.

All it does is to buffer the chuff switch so it doesn't affect the fan.  It consists of a 5V power supply and a simple chuff switch buffer.  I still have a couple of these in my parts box, I'll sell them at a discount.

I recommend you spend the extra money and consider my Super-Chuffer, it's night and day.  You get much better chuffing performance with timed chuffs and smoke at idle.  You also get the lighting effects, Rule-17 headlight and automatic cab light control.  The extra $25 will be well spent!
