ERR and Railsounds

I'm hoping to upgrade my Lionel 6-11110 steam switcher to command control to use it with my Legacy system. It came with the Trainsounds sound system. I see in the DC Commander has a 4 pin connector at J3. I assume that's intended to connect to the ERR Railsounds kit. Would it be wise to just buy their kit? Or can I splice my sound board into the Commander? I attached pictures. I assume the sound board is on the tender with the speaker.
