I recently installed a ERR Cruise Commander/Sound Commander in a Williams brass 4-6-2.

Everything functions well on my Legacy layout except that i cannot get the engine to start "gently'. At speed step 1, it jerks away at about 5smph but after that fine control works well. When I try to slowly decelerate, again, fine control is great until 5smph when the engine stops dead.

I tried all combinations of 100 speed steps, 32 speed steps, large motor and small motor -  no improvement.

I have previously done several Cruise Commander (M) installations and they all start and stop smoothly so I'm hoping someone can help me correct this problem.

+1. The few times my ERR cruise engines have not operated smoothly from the first blink on the Command base was when there was a mechanical issue. I would suggest trying to turn the motor shaft/flywheel by hand to see where it might be binding. Not sure which Williams Pacific you have but the early ones definitely had mechanical issues.
