Just wondering if anyone has ever sent anything in for a repaint , either in or out of warranty, or know if MTH is wiling to do a repaint for $$$, since they have all of he paint specs. I know I can call in the morning and ask but wanted to throw this out there. It would be a nice option.

I have not contacted MTH Service about repainting, but I have talked with Midge in MTH Parts, looking for touch-up paints, and she told me they do not do anything with paint. They don't carry any paint and they don't have formulas for matching. That's all done over in China and they don't do anything with it here. She suggested taking it to an automotive paint place to get paint matched and mixed, which I have done with success several times.
As far as warranty, the only thing I have known MTH to do for warranty on paint is to swap out the train for a new one if the paint was damaged badly enough.
If you do call MTH and ask, please post what response you get, it would be interesting to know if any of this has changed.
Back in the earlier days of MTH, trains were painted and assembled in Maryland. Parts were being made overseas, but the painting took place here. I'm not 100% sure if the Lionel Classics time period was painted here or not, but know that the Tinplate Traditions trains were all painted overseas.

I have on past occasions received METAL paint strip samples (1 X 3 X 1/16) for my state cars and Blue Comet cars.
