I purchased 060 switch(6-16628)hoping it would replace an 060 a 22.5" curve section(6-12056). The problem is the curved section of the switch, with or without the extensions, is longer than the curved section of the curve.

If I remember right, it's about an inch longer, with a short straight section on the entry before the Y. A shorter piece of track going into it is what is needed, normally.
I can confirm that its pretty easy to modify Fastrack to eliminate the need for the small straight partial roadbed pieces. I have done this for five track sections meeting my O-60 switches.
But that doesn't help with the essentially small straight section at the point-end of the switch. I considered trying to trim off that small straight section, but I figured that would compromise the reliability of the switch and locomotive tracking.
Even with modified track sections to eliminate the 1 3/8 pieces, the switch is still not an exact "drop-in" replacement for an 0-60 curve like O-36 switches are. You can confirm using track planning software. I checked it with AnyRail 5, which you can get for free but limited to 50 pieces of track on the layout.
