Love Knoebel's. We go every year; have family in the vicinity.

I have to admit, when I opened this thread, I was curious to see who was modeling amusement parks in Finland. Seemed like and odd subject....

Alex, I think it's particularly effective the way you have the whole park situated, all along the side of a dirt road which is well-worn and dusty looking. The grassy areas reflect that same worn look, tamped down and dusty from numerous feet traipsing their way around the park. The individual attractions make sense, too, in the way and order in which they are presented to park visitors. The whole effect is very pleasant. Congratulations of your very successful effort.

Locally we have Glen Echo Park , a former Amusement Park now a national park, was a trolley park. The park recently underwent restoration including the re-laying of a short section of the two track mainline of the Washington & Great Falls Electric Railway in the concrete of the entrance road/concrete which also is the former rail ROW. On display is a former Philadelphia PCC car (in rough shape). Much of the ROW of the railroad remains and I have a spike I pulled out of a rotten tie on the balloon loop a short distance from the park. Rail service ended in the late 1960s and much of the ROW and trestles remain. . The park itself is a cultural arts park and still retains much of the former architecture/buildings/etc of the Amusement Park. All of the rides are long gone, with the exception of the stunningly restored 1921 Dentzel Carousel and Wurlitzer Organ which is operated on select days during the summer. I haven't ridden it in years but it is a truly beautiful machine.

EDIT: Just took a look at the parks Facebook Page and saw that the PCC Car's restoration recently began. Hope they are regauging it to fit on relaid track. Regardless, glad to see its restoration has begun. See HERE for photos.

Steve,
Your carnival goers are in grave danger. That low, uncovered cage cannot contain lions. That they haven't already escaped and dined on patrons is a miracle. Save the children, spare yourself the heartbreak (and legal liability) by COVERING THAT CAGE! Big Grin

Hey Cab,

That lion cage is really not so low but the camera angle may make it appear so. The Lions are actually quite secure in the Lemax accessory. As you can see in this angle the lions are nowhere near the top of the cage.

Ben's amusement park remains one of the most popular sections of our Modular Club's layout

Overview:

Coaster Dynamics Roller Coaster (built from a kit)

Circus Tent (also built from a kit)

The bulk of the rides are Lemax. If the sound is turned on all of them at the same time, it will drive you nutz. Especially the kid that keeps saying "I don't feel so good....."

I like the N Gauge train you have running around your park Alex and I even bought one to run around my amusement park but I would have to take down my wife's Dept. 56 village so that's not really an option.

WOW Steve that's impressive. The grandkids must love to come over to see your layout. The play action that you've incorporated in your layout is really incredible. I'll bet that you have quite a few sheckles invested there!
Thanks Dennis I appreciate your compliment. I wish that I had grand children to share this with but alas I've resolved that this may never happen.

We do share this layout with the grand children of our friends and family so at least I know someone else is enjoying the the amusement park and circus.

All of the money that we have spent on the layout has been worth it to my wife and I. We have met so many great people in this hobby over the years that the investment seems reasonable. We also built this over time so the monetary outlay wasn't too bad. We bought most of the Mr Christmas and other animations on sale so the cost wasn't too bad.

We've also had to replace a few of the animations with newer models or different accessories altogether. We tweak the layout from time to time and though these photos don't show it we've added another Lemax animation to the park, an animated monkey display where the monkeys swing back and forth.

The animations are what drives the interests of the children when they first see the layout. Of course they love the trains but soon concentrate on the numerous animations.
