I have what I hope to be a simple problem that I could use some help on. I purchased the Lionel Union Pacific Legacy Alco PA AA unit and the powered B unit (#34594 and 34597) last weekend at the Lionel Customer Service Day (a great time!). I run my engines using TMCC.

First question - when programming the entire 3-locomotive set, can I program it with one ID number or do I have to program the powered B unit separately and then use a lash up ID number for the set?  If all 3 units are programmed at once, will the powered A unit and the powered b unit operate at the same speed or will they work against one another somehow?

Secondly, I can get both the AA unit and the B unit to program separately but there is no sound from either unit. I have adjusted the volume knob in all directions and tried a battery but I get no sounds whatsoever. The direction, brake, coupler, etc all work fine but neither AA unit nor B unit produce a peep. I even looked for a sound switch on the bottom but there is nothing. I could not find any aux number to use when programming the units, so I don't know if that's the problem. What am I doing wrong???????

I really appreciate any help here because I do not want to pack them up and ship them back. My wife is starting to come around and she is speaking to me again Perhaps I might get out of the doghouse.....

You can use the same id for all units and they will run ok. The problem with this method is the lights and sounds. All units will blow their horn when the button is pressed. All lights will in front will light up when going forward.

If you give them different ids and then program them as a lashup, the lights work correctly. All lights in the middle will go out. Just the end lights work. As for sounds, only the lead unit will blow the horn and ring bell.

For the actually running, the locs will work either way. And yes a legacy engine can be lashedup using tmcc.
Hi Rickover, What you wrote is correct but I would find your responses less " know it all" if you read others a little more closely. You can run all three with the same ID. You can run 50 with the same ID. The poster made it clear that you would get lights and sounds in all in sync. He was not not calling it a MU or a lashup. He was accurately answering the original question. Fred

Thanks for all of the help on the "lashup". I am going to program the units in that manner to get maximum benefit from them.

Thanks to RickO for the suggestion on the sounds issue. I haven't had time to go down and try those keystroke sequences yet but I'll let you know how it works out. Anybody else with a suggestion on the sound issue - I'd be happy to hear it.
