Does anyone have a link to a good set of nut drivers that are tiny-sized, probably metric, for removing and re-installing various size rod-end hex-head bolts as would be found on modern MTH and other Chinese made recent-production steam locos? All I need is something that would let me remove rods to change traction tires, clean out crap that got struck in the mechanism and so forth. What are you using that has worked well for you?

I didn't feel like trying to sort out specifics, so I just got all the sizes from about 2.5mm to 6.0mm in Metric and 3/32" to 1/4" in SAE.  So far, the right driver is always in the set.

I have other things besides toy trains cross my bench. I'd rather have a complete set. It is frustrating to have every size other than the one you need.
My small sized nut drivers are a combination of Xcelite and Wiha. I fell into the Xcelite stuff years ago at a very good price when I met a distributor who had closed up shop and just stored all his inventory. My Xcelite nut drivers are all S.A.E. I picked up a set of Wiha when I saw the need for metric.

C.W.,

I had a set of Xcelite nut drivers at one time, don't know what happened to them, but gone now? I still have one of their screwdrivers from the mid '80s and it is a very fine item, still a top favorite tool to this day. I think it came with an early PC clone I purchased, IIRC.

Is their quality still the same as it once was? I don't see their products around much anymore, at least not like I used to? Maybe because I became a big Wiha fan several years ago and just don't look that closely anymore? Or too old to keep track of all these things?

Xcelite was purchased by Cooper Tools a number of years ago. Today, they are part of Apex Tool Group. How they got from Cooper to Apex is unknown to me.
(Perhaps just a name change?) According to their web site, Apex owns over thirty brands. I am not familar with all of them. The ones I know, such as Nicholson and Weller were good brands. Hopefully they still are.

The only retail environment in which I saw any Xcelite tools was our local commercial electronics parts shop (now gone).  Many mail order electronics supply houses carry it.

I have quite an assortment of Xcelite hand tools, most of which I purchased NOS from the former tool distributor. The rest was purchased NOS from flea markets and EBay. (I haven't seen any NOS Xcelite tools in a flea market in a long time)

I like the quality of what I have. It is all old stock, so I couldn't comment on what they are doing today.
If I needed something, I'd probably start out looking a Wiha. The last screwdrivers I purchased were made by Vessel. They are outstanding.

Amazon still has lots of them.  I think I'll have to get this out of my car and dust it off, didn't realize these were worth so much!   I sure didn't pay anything like that for them!

I am surprised no one has mentioned Moody Tools

I have some Moody Tools too, including their nut drivers. I don't think I've ever used them.
I like their miniature screwdrivers.
I have a set of miniature screw extractors.
And I also have a set of miniature JIS phillips screwdrivers.

One nice thing about Moody is their lifetime guarantee.
Just recently I accidentally touched a hot soldering iron to a Moody tool pouch.
I wrote to them asking about purchasing a replacement. They sent me one without charge.
